If your vehicle is used exclusively for non-commercial purposes, does NOT have any business logos, marking or advertising and is below 6,001 lbs, which both the Tacoma and Tundra are, you can now register you vehicle as passenger vehicles.
If your Tacoma or Tundra is over 6,001 lbs., then hope is not lost. If you do not have any business logos, marking or advertising, a camper top having one or more side windows that completely encloses the truck bed or if the vehicle has seats, seat fittings or camping equipment installed in the truck bed, you can register it as a passenger vehicle. What does this mean for you? Well you can drive on most public highways, some bridges have weight restrictions that may fall out of the range of your vehicle. Take for instance the Palisades Parkway, technically vehicles that are registered with commercial plates cannot be operated on the Palisades or any parkway for that matter. Well, with passengers plates you can!
